See How We Recycle

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

The byword of recycling is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.  At the Partnership Resale Shop, our very mission is to help by making wonderful merchandise available for reuse.  What you may not know is that we also actively reduce and recycle in all of our departments and programs.

One way we help is through our baling program which is detailed below.

Where does all that clothing go?

The Partnership Resale Shop is blessed with many clothing donations.  Volunteers and staff sort out the highest quality and make it available to the public.  The Shop sells much of this clothing at incredibly low prices!

What happens to clothing that isn't sold?  All dry clothing with stains, holes, etc. is bagged, stored, and then baled for recycling.  The Partnership recently worked with the Sheltered Workshop to secure a grant for a new baling machine there. The new baler is operational and now benefits both groups.

Many hands are involved in this process.  Service teams from Missouri S&T have consistently helped us.  Teams from Missouri S&T include Alpha Phi Omega, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Open Edge.  The bales are picked up, weighed and stored by A-1 Moving & Storage, with owner Troy Duncan coordinating the effort.  A-1 has given freely of their time and resources throughout the year.

The Resale Shop's goal is 40,000 pounds of baled clothing twice per year.  The bales are ready for pick up by the recycler.  The Resale Shop is paid by the pound for this salvaged material with proceeds returning to the Community Partnership.

To all of you who have donated, sorted, bagged, carried, loaded and stores these clothes, we say THANK YOU!
