Girls, Inc.

Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The program fosters girls’ communication skills, provides basic health education, and encourages girls to plan for the future through age-appropriate components.

The Community Partnership is part of a national network that offers Girls Inc. programs. Trained professional staff facilitates the two programs that are currently offered:

Growing Together brings girls ages 9-11 together with their mothers, guardians or a special adult in workshops designed to improve their communication about physical development, human sexuality and family and personal values. Topics include changes during puberty, anatomy, adolescent development and feelings, and much more. This worthwhile program will be the beginning of an open and fulfilling mother/daughter relationship and will jump start the lines of communication.

Will Power/ Won’t Power is an assertiveness training program with the specific goal of encouraging girls to delay engaging in sexual intercourse. This program is taught to 7th and 8th graders in schools that choose to participate. Will Power/Won’t Power enables girls to develop crucial attitudes and skills for dealing with health and sexuality issues by building girls’ capacity to take charge of their own sexual lives before they enter middle adolescence, the period of maximum pressure to begin having sexual intercourse.
