The Community Partnership
Notes From Amy
Baling with the Board!

Dear ###USER_firstname###,

If you are looking for some great cupcakes to celebrate Mother's Day with this weekend you might want to consider purchasing an abbicake. One of the families in our CKF program is having a bake sale this Saturday, in front of Krogers and Arnold Realty, with proceeds donated to CKF. The family asked to do this to demonstrate their gratitude for all the support Abbi and her family have received over the past few years. One of the S&T fraternities is donating all the supplies and the use of their kitchen! What a great gift from one of our wonderful families - thank you!

After a challenge from fellow board member John Butz, board members signed up to help bale clothing at the Resale Shop. It was a cold and raining day but all the extra hands had our truck loaded in record time. We then headed over  to the Sheltered Workshop where our trusty friend Rick Kyle helped demonstrate how to load the clothes, operate the baler, and tie the bales. Rick then wrapped and stacked the bales as they came out of the machine. We baled 6,700 pounds of clothes during this "board bale" in record time!

As you can see by the pictures to the right John Butz, Rolla City Administrator had fun catching the bags of clothes as they were thrown his way. Wendy Young, Phelps County Bank had a bit easier time as she was handed bags of clothing.

One of the best parts of baling is realizing that all of this clothing is not being thrown into the trash. We put our overflow into trash bags, bale them, A-1 Moving and Storage holds them in a semi-truck for us until we have a full load and then someone pays us by the pound. We are 60% of the way to being able to sell our next truck load and are always looking for groups who would like to help us with this job - give Susie a call and she can schedule your group!
